SHORT EXERCISE:

Reconfiguration strategy for Facades of residential blocks in Hernando Residential in Seseña.

One of the most peculiar characteristics of Hernando Residential is the application of a single façade solution for all blocks. Everyone of the 13.000 residential units have exactly the same standarized façade which constructs a solid and continuous image of the whole site.

Unit V&F proposes to change this image. Students might propose a different one for all the blocks; or they might prefer to develop a strategy that allows a range of variability among different units and/or blocs.

Every student must discuss and choose a global strategy, and develop the architectonic and technological proposal designed to reach it’s own goals. There is not a particular image or strategy prescribed by the unit, but students are expected to establish the global argument with their design attending to two different stages:

-        Discuss and select the conceptual aims seeked with their proposal.

-        Develop and define the physical and technological means used to reach those aims.

   

Presentation Format:

-        COLLAGE, showing conceptual and ideological aspects of the proposal.

   Scale: left up to students choice

   Aprox. Size: 60x40cm

-        AXONOMETRIC, showing technological and structural aspects of the proposal.

   Scale: left up to students choice

   Aprox. Size: 60x40cm

-        MODEL, showing physical appearance and technological viability of the proposal.

   Scale: left up to students choice

   Aprox. Size: 30x30x15cm

-        2 minute oral PRESENTATION of the proposal, supported on any documentation the student might consider necessary (.ppt, panels, models, etc…)

Schedule:

-        Monday 17 September: Exercise Presentation.

-        Monday 8 October: Deadline

Assessment Criteria:

The following aspects of students proposals will be assessed:

-        Rigor and precision through out all proposal’s development.

-        Proposal’s creativity and innovation.

-        Proposal’s adaptability to different situations.

-        Technological viability and development.

-        Comunication and graphic general quality of proposal’s presentation.
